Overview
On a competence-based virtue epistemology, knowledge is not merely a true belief produced by an able thinker. The belief must be true because that competence was exercised: Sosa calls such a belief apt, as a successful shot is accurate because skillful rather than by accident.
This explanatory link between competence and truth is meant to exclude epistemic luck while making knowledge an achievement of the knower.
